The original beat for this was inspired by a stage I played on Sonic The Hedgehog, but people weren’t really feeling it, so I changed it to something based on Super Mario Brothers. I originally wanted my little sister adding something to the chorus, but it didn’t fit after I changed the beat. I feel most strongly about this song. As a teacher, I often see children get picked on simply for wanting to do well in class and getting high grades. It makes my blood boil every time I hear the word “nerd” used in a negative way – mainly because people used it that way on me. It’s sad that many of us would rather be called “nigger” than “nerd.”
