I be on my grind seven days a week
Every month, all year, and it gets me to the brink
Of a breakdown, ‘cause it seems I’m running in place.
The harder I work, the more that I make, the more that they take.
So every now and then I just like to have a day
Where I get the stress off my mindin some type of ways.
Sometimes I meditate, pray and talk it out with God
Venting out the frustrations that make life so hard.
Or I’m getting at the wife for some words of encouragement,
A back rub, a home cooked meal for some nourishment.
Do a little Foreplay, Yellowjackets, Rippingtons
Or Pat Metheny on the stereo, and I’m listening.
I would say watching sports is a way,
But if my team ain’t winning, it could ruin my day.
I do like books. I could be reading one or writing one.
To me, that’s much healthier than popping tons of Vicotin.

Whatever it takes to get you to calm down.
I used to be like “Just say no to weed” when I was younger,
Till I learned the only side effect you really get was hunger.
I’ll probably never smoke, but if you do, then I won’t fault ya,
I never heard of DWI’s off marijuana.
Neither have I seen Cannabis smokers get in bar fights,
Or husbands high on weed beating their wives and children at night.
And isn’t weed a safer painkiller than Oxycotton?
My nephew made sure that he had his medical card when
He played football. And if you’ve never suffered a concussion,
Then your moral high horse has no basis for discussion.
I’d rather see you at the crib smoking a blunt
Than out in the streets wilding, and blowing ya funds
On some dumb stuff. So choose the right flavor for you.
Your problems ain’t going nowhere, they’ll still be waiting for you. for now,

Lately my pacifier of choice is video games.
You know, the old school ones the young ones think are so lame.
I got the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis
Emulators on my PC and all the greatest hits.
See, at the end of a stressful day, it’s fun
To blast away at some aliens with laser guns.
Or hack dragons with a sword and some magic spells,
A good way to ease stress, any man can tell.
I even got my wife into the party, though.
She sees me playing and she wants to rock that Mario.
Whatever helps you detox from the stress
Of the day to day grind of putting up with people’s mess.
Remember that you need to take some time for you,
And any hobby that you like to waste time will do.
And on August 15th
We can all take a day to cool out. You think?
